Katarina Witt

  German ex-figure skater Katarina Witt was born on the 12th of March in the year 1965. Twice a Olympic winner, Witt is regarded as one of the best female' singles figure skaters of all time.Her Laureus profile states "she is most remembered because of her athleticism and overall performance her charismatic appearance and her stunning image on the ice."



 



 Witt won her first Olympic gold medal for East Germany in 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. She then won another gold medal at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Witt is the only skater to win the women's singles Olympic title. Sonja Henie, from Norway, was second. Witt was four times she was a World Champion (1984, 1985 1987, 1988) and twice she was a World silver medalist (1982, 1986). Six straight European Championships (1983-1988) were won by Witt, a feat that was only equaled by Sonja Henie among female skators. Witt was among the most successful figure skaters in 1984 and 1988. She took home ten gold medals from eleven important international events.
